The subtitle for his book is the surrender of culture to technology which is a very concise summary of the argument of his book though by the end he seems to have portrayed the rise of the modern american technopoly more as a degeneration and undermining of the cultural meaning and purpose undergirding our entire society. In technopoly the surrender of culture to technology neil postman asserts that we in the west have essentially deified technology a state postman dubs technopoly the ascension of technology has radically altered how human beings understand themselves and interact with each other. Postman worries that technopoly is what our culture is moving towards and if we dont address that issue it will be the cause of our demise we are told of the history of technology in our culture and how we have went through or are currently approaching the three stages he defined. Technopoly by neil postman is an interesting book on tech and culture it was published 25 years ago but i think the ideas are still relevant and ive written this to help me get my head . In this witty often terrifying work of cultural criticism the author of amusing ourselves to death chronicles our transformation into a technopoly a society that no longer merely uses technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it with radical consequences for the meanings of politics art education intelligence and truth
